Who the witness is relative to the party whose execution is described: the observed party itself (SELF), another participant in the same interaction (PEER), or a party outside it that the observed party cannot reach (EXTERNAL). Orthogonal to observation_vantage, which says what was observed, and to observation_directness, which says how; this says whose account a consumer is reading. Values are recorded in the casing the wire carries, upper case. A consumer matches the emitted string, not a normalised form.
