independence_basis

Term URI: https://w3id.org/agent-evidence/vocab/v1/independence_basis

Section: evidence_dimensions. Criticality: critical.

Whether the guarantee a claim rests on was demonstrated by sources independent of the party the claim is about (independent_sources), came from that party itself (subject_supplied), or carries no declaration at all (undeclared). Independence here is a relation between two named parties and never a property of one of them, so a record declaring independent_sources MUST name the independent party under party_role. The value is REQUIRED and fail-closed. Absent, non-string or unregistered makes the enclosing statement malformed, and absence is never read as independent_sources. A verifier MUST NOT infer this value from observation_vantage, and MUST NOT infer observation_vantage from this one. The two are orthogonal: a substrate-vantage observation can be made by the observed party's own platform, and an independent party can file a claim whose inputs were all artifact-vantage.
